Carol Woods Forum for Peace and Justice:
From Behind the Wall to Co-conspirators. Stories of Resilience and Redemption

 Monday, April 5, 2021, 1:15-2:45p.m.
In this immersive storytelling session, you will meet Mark Hall and Bill Grizack, two privileged gentleman who share the lived experience of a prison journey and a unique perspective into the worlds of criminal justice and social justice that came with it. You will hear two very different stories that share a common thread—a red thread comprised of humility, compassion, and resilience. Together they now fight against the ills of the criminal injustice system. During the 90-minute, online session, Mark and Bill will each share his story followed by a 30-minute Q&A. This event is open to the Carol Woods Community.

Mark Hall
knows the realities of incarceration from personal experience. For many years he ran a successful financial services company. Then he made some very bad decisions in response to the financial crisis. Mark was arrested and convicted of embezzlement, serving ten years in prison. Even before his release in October 2019, Mark dedicated his life to helping other prisoners and raising public awareness about incarceration. He’s taught several classes and reached hundreds of students. He’s established an educational platform about addiction, homelessness and incarceration, at www.facelessnomore.org . He’s the assistant director of operations for the Durham Rescue Mission. His story will help you learn about the larger story of what is happening behind our prison walls.

Like so many people, Bill Grizack has a past. He has a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech, an MBA from Wake Forest, and has spent a career in advertising, innovation, and strategy. Bill started a digital advertising agency before anyone knew what that was and a full-service agency that transformed how creative work was produced. But Bill also made a big mistake in doing that work and spent almost five years inside the justice system. Bill deeply regrets the bad choices he made and has left that system a better human and one dedicated to his new path; seeking forgiveness and helping others. A difficult lesson learned.

Today, as you meet Bill, you will meet a smart, brave, and progressive weirdo. You’ll meet someone as dedicated to repairing his relationship with his two daughters as he is to helping the men and women who find themselves as justice impacted as he was. All of Bill’s creative energy is devoted to creating lasting change; in himself, in the justice system, and for the benefit of others.
